Education and Training Center for Poor Women and Girls of Afghanistan

The Education and Training Center for Poor Women and Girls of Afghanistan (ECW) was awarded an Advocacy Coordination Grant (ACG) from ASGP in November 2010. A founding member of the Afghan Women’s Advocacy Coalition (AWAC), ECW works nationwide to provide training in conflict mitigation, awareness of women’s rights, and advocacy for the elimination of violence against women. It has raised community and government awareness of the Elimination of Violence Against Women (EVAW) Law. ECW also worked to raise awareness for women imprisoned in Afghanistan. Representatives met with the Governor of Takhar to express their concern for female prisoners and as a result of the meeting, the governor pledged US$ 75,000 to improve rooms for female prisoners and construct a nursery and school for their children.
