Farabi Music Training Association

During the Taliban regime, Afghan women were banned from making music or participating in the arts. Even today, few opportunities exist for young women to learn to play musical instruments or sing. In May 2010, the Farabi Music Training Association received a Quick Impact Grant from ASGP to build its technical capacity, purchase music equipment and provide better services to the community. The Farabi Music Association has trained more than 20 young women in music and singing. In 2011, one student was featured on the famous Afghan TV show, “Afghan Star”. After the successful completion of its ASGP grant, the organization has struggled for funds and new funding sources.
